Music Performance Major: Vocal (BMus)

Total: 136 credit hours
Major Mission: The Music Performance major is designed to facilitate a high level of artistic training that, paired with the students' biblical and worship studies, will produce cross-cultural leaders uniquely prepared to serve as "salt and light" within the world of performing arts and to serve the local body with their gifts and talents.
Major Outcomes: In addition to the department objectives, the students will:
- Articulate an understanding of the biblical balance between service and performance.
- Demonstrate relevancy in the use of their art form as a ministry tool.
- Exhibit poise and confidence in music performance.
- Recognize music from various historical periods.
- Demonstrate a professional knowledge of the history and repertoire of their instrument.
- Include a personal mission statement, within the biblical philosophy of ministry, which articulates the investment of their gifts and talents for the advancement of the kingdom of God.
Requirements: In order to fulfill the baccalaureate requirements in music performance, the student must:
- Complete all credit requirements.
- Fulfill all departmental requirements as outlined in the MWPA Handbook.
- Complete MWPA 101, the MWPA Seminar.
- Participate and maintain a 3.5 average in a large ensemble for eight semesters.
- Maintain a 3.0 average in chosen proficiency.
- Practice a minimum of seven hours weekly for a total of 84 hours per semester on the major applied instrument.
- Perform and obtain a satisfactory evaluation from the MWPA faculty for student junior and senior recitals.
- Attend all required MWPA department forum (WPA 100), performances, and events.
- Accumulate eight semesters of a major proficiency (voice, piano, organ, composition, or instrumental).
