6.1 Preparations for Writing
The process of writing the dissertation cannot be hurried. It is a progressive investigation of a line of inquiry begun in the research seminars. Students first encounter biblical studies research methods in the first term during the BIB 901 Advanced Biblical Research & Writing course. In this seminar, the student receives formal training in research methodologies including literature review development. Throughout the following seminar courses, students continue to identify potential research areas for the dissertation. In BIB 915 Dissertation IA: Reading & Prospectus Design, students will work towards a potential prospectus, applying the appropriate research methodology learned in BIB 901.
After completing comprehensive exams, the student formally develops a dissertation prospectus that will present the student’s research questions and strategy. The student’s Dissertation Committee supervises the dissertation writing process including the writing of the prospectus . The student defends the prospectus in an open hearing.
On-campus, individual consultations are required of the student during the writing of the dissertation.
