Program Mission Statement: The Media Arts Production Program at Lancaster Bible College seeks to honor God by developing highly skilled media production professionals who influence culture from a relevant, biblical worldview.
Program Description: Studying Media Arts Production at LBC gives creative and technically-minded Christians the chance to become an integral part of the media and performing arts world. This major will give students a hands-on learning experience with state-of-the-art audio, video, and lighting technology used in live events, studios, theater, film, and recording production. Besides the general program, three specializations are available for students interested in focusing on a particular area: Audio, Film & Video, and Stage Management & Lighting.
Program Learning Outcomes: As a result of this program, students will:
1. Integrate a biblical worldview and servant mindset into the practice and evaluation of media arts.
2. Demonstrate proficiency in basic production technology in audio, film/video, lighting, and general electronics, able to troubleshoot issues and train others.
3. Acquire production leadership skills, informed by a biblical and cultural understanding of the nature and purpose of media arts production.
4. Develop a professional etiquette, maintaining professional relationships and communicating effectively with peers, artistic team, and technical staff.
5. Participate in a media arts production career field to further develop skills, knowledge, and experiences.
Experiential Learning: As a very hands-on major, Media Arts Production involves a great deal of experiential learning. On-campus experiential learning occurs in PRO 221, PRO 222, PRO 223, and PRO 224 using the three-times-weekly chapel services as a lab for Media Arts Production skills. PRO 132, PRO 133, PRO 322, PRO 333, PRO 334, and PRO 335 offer students the opportunity to practice their skills in the realm of musical theater production. PRO 321, PRO 322, PRO 323, and PRO 324 allow students to pursue additional lab experience through additional participation in chapel service production, the campus radio station, video production, or other on-campus media outlets chosen through consultation with the student’s advisor. The particular mix and number of these on-campus, in-person experiential learning courses vary based on the student’s chosen specialization.
PRO 460 involves a 120-hour internship placement for all students in an area of professional interest. This placement is completed in person as arranged by the student in consultation with one of the professors.
