Graduation Rates/National Center for Education Statistics

The Student-Right-to -Know Act requires all colleges and universities to disclose graduation rates for students who enter their school on or after July 1, 1996. The students who need to be identified and tracked are limited to first-time, full-time freshmen. This group of students is called a cohort. Other students such as previous college students, transfer students, and part-time students are excluded from the cohort. Additionally, the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) requires all colleges and universities to compute graduation rates as a part of their Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS).
