SWK 562 Addictions and Dual Diagnosis
This course provides the student with the application of a biopsychosocial-spiritual perspective to addiction, addiction treatment, co-morbid mental health diagnoses and understanding of the impact of addiction and mental health issues for client populations. The student will explore current understanding of the prevention of substance abuse/dependence, relational addictions, and other compulsions, often coupled with a co-occurring mental health diagnosis. Attention will be given to components of comprehensive treatment to include a spiritual approach to understanding recovery. The person-in-environment perspective will be emphasized in understanding the impact of dual diagnosis within social work contexts.
