English as Second Language - ESL Services
ESL Services supports LBC’s commitment to fostering an inclusive, culturally responsive learning community that values its diverse student population. In accordance with the guidelines outlined in 22 Pa. Code § 4.26, ESL Services promotes equitable access to educational opportunities by providing appropriate accommodations and individualized support for students whose first language is not English. ESL Services assists second-language learners in developing the academic English skills needed to participate confidently and successfully in college-level coursework. Support may include guidance with academic reading, writing, listening, speaking, vocabulary development, grammar, classroom communication, note-taking, study strategies, and understanding assignment expectations. Students can also receive assistance with organization, time management, and communication with faculty. Through individualized instruction, language-proficiency assessments, and ongoing consultation, ESL Services helps students identify goals and build the skills necessary for academic progress and increased independence. ESL Services also recognizes that adjusting to a new language, educational system, and culture can involve personal and emotional challenges. Personalized sessions provide students with a confidential, supportive space to discuss cultural adjustment, academic stress, communication concerns, homesickness, and other challenges that may affect their well-being or academic success.
