SWK 102 Introduction to Social Work
This course will provide the student with an overview of the profession of social work. It will explore the mission of the profession, its core values, ethics and knowledge base unique to social work, including a survey of social work history, theory, methods, and areas of practice. Students will develop an understanding of the social work profession with emphasis on generalist practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities. The course will provide students with a general overview of the competencies of the social work profession with emphasis on ethical & professional behavior, justice, and diversity as well as the skills of engagement, assessment, intervention and evaluation. Students will be challenged to develop an integrative biblical approach to the field of social work. They will engage in self-reflection of personal values and their alignment with the social work profession. 3 credits.
