2024-2025 Traditional Undergraduate Catalog

Academic Dismissal

Traditional undergraduate students are eligible for academic dismissal from the College at the conclusion of the spring semester under the following circumstances:

1. Failure to make 80% or more of required academic mentoring appointments and study hours.

2. Two consecutive semesters on probation as a registered student and three consecutive semesters if the second consecutive is a fall term.

3. A cumulative GPA below these minimum standards:

Earned Credits Towards Graduation Minimum GPA
 0-17 credits No minimum
 18-59 credits 1.50 GPA
 60-89 credits 1.75 GPA
 90+ credits 1.90 GPA

Transfer credits do count for earned credits toward graduation. Transfer students are not eligible for academic dismissal in their first semester at the College.

The purpose of these requirements is to safeguard students by ensuring they have an opportunity to meet the minimum GPA requirements for graduation.

Academic Integrity Dismissals: Students who violate the Academic Integrity Policy are eligible for immediate academic dismissal, with the right to appeal, based on the severity or repeated nature of the infraction. See the Academic Integrity Policy for details.

Notification: Students will be notified by the Office of the Provost regarding their academic dismissal. Key stakeholders will also be notified.

Appeals: Students have the right to appeal to the Registrar (registrar@lbc.edu) for reinstatement if they believe there were extenuating circumstances. Appeals must be made within five (5) business days of the date of their dismissal letter. The student must supply information that substantiates the grounds on which the appeal is being made and cite at least one of the following grounds for appeal:

1. Fair consideration was not provided for the student;
2. New and significant information has become available; or
3. The sanction imposed is not in due proportion to the seriousness of the offense.

The Registrar will convene the Student Appeals Committee to review the appeal and related documents. The decision of the Committee will be final.

Reapplication: Students who have been dismissed may reapply to the College after one calendar year.
