Life Experience Credits / Credit for Prior Learning
Adult Education and Online students may earn up to 30 semester hours of Life Experience Credits (LEC) [sometimes referred to as Credit for Prior Learning (CPL)] by submitting a portfolio that has been evaluated by faculty in the respective discipline(s).
The 30 semester hours of LEC credit can be from a number of different sources including workshops, seminars, self-study, non-credit classes, training programs, and/or work experiences. Prior learning from these sources must be documented and evaluated by a faculty member in the relevant field to determine the amount of credit to be awarded.
In the admission process, students may obtain an estimate of the number of LEC credits they can receive once they enter the program. There is no fee to apply for LEC credit but there is a fee charged for the credits awarded.
Note: LBC cannot guarantee the transferability of Life Experience or Prior Learning Credits to other institutions.
