Media

Students should use discernment, discretion, and wisdom in their selection and participation in media use. This includes but is not limited to music, television programs, movies, theater, literature, social media, video games, and computer media.

Students are cautioned to be observant of the amount of time they are media consumers and of the settings in which they may be distracted, namely by social media. Although some media may be able to assist in building community, others distract from authentic relationships and have the reverse consequence.

As part of a community, students should understand the effects media consumption has on them as an individual as well as others. Students should reflect a biblical worldview in personal media choices and a loving consideration of others in communal media participation. Media guides can be unreliable and much of social media is unfiltered. With biblical discernment as the backdrop, students should follow these standards in the LBC community:

• Media that contains sexually explicit or suggestive content, profane or coarse language, and/or themes that are morally degrading, pornographic in nature, or may cause the viewer to become desensitized to issues not supporting a biblical worldview is prohibited on and off campus.
• Social Media should be edifying, building each other up for service in the church and society. Students who choose to engage in social media should choose to do so responsibly, using discernment, and not demeaning others or with intent to bully. By choosing to use social media outside of these media guidelines, a student may be subject to disciplinary action from the college.
• Lancaster Bible College reserves the right to prohibit the use of specific media by students, on a case-by-case basis, when judgement is in question.
