HIS 303 The American Civil War
This course examines the ideas and events that led Americans into the Civil War (1861-1865). It also analyzes the progress of the war in light of military leaders’ styles, strategies and tactics; and the factors that account for the outcomes of both the battles and the war itself. The class will visit battlefield(s) to help students better understand how terrain affected particular engagements. Students will assess the relationship between moral responsibility and the use of war to correct civic evils by studying both Northern and Southern worldviews in light of social, economic, political, and cultural contexts, in the light of a biblical worldview.
