Ally Center At the Ally Center, your academic goals are our focus. We are LBC’s hub for academic services, resources, and accessibility, which means that we provide personalized academic attention for all LBC students at no additional cost. Whether you are looking to finish a paper or needing some extra help on an assignment, the Ally Center helps drive you toward academic success. Located on the fifth level of the Teague Learning Commons (TLC), which is accessible by elevator, we are uniquely positioned to take your academic career to the next level. Academic Mentoring Services (AMS) delivers academic services to current LBC students. Professional personnel and peer mentors provide academic assistance with time management strategies, course material review, test- and note-taking skills, and project planning, as well as study skills and memorization strategies. You can also take assessments to learn their learning style preferences and learn relevant study strategies. AMS’s Math Lab offers tutoring from a math professor, and you may come on an as-needed basis or schedule weekly appointments. Additionally, AMS offers incentivized study hours in productive study spaces, and study groups are available for certain courses. During the regular semester, students may schedule study hours and tutoring appointments for available daytime and evening hours Monday - Friday.
Writing Services (WS) is available to help any current LBC student with writing assignments from any course. Students can schedule a one-on-one appointment with professional personnel or peer mentors at any point in the writing process. Appointments may cover brainstorming and outlining, development of ideas, critique of partial or full drafts, and/or review of formatting and citations. You can also request assistance with key academic writing components, including grammar and argumentation. Appointments are available on an as-needed basis, or professors may require writing services sessions for certain writing assignments. The Writing Center also hosts periodic mentor-led writing groups for key written assignments. A variety of top writing resources, including a thesis worksheet and formatting/citation tips, are available in print at the Writing Center or online.
Disability Services office (DSO) provides accommodations for students with disabilities to ensure access to all programs, facilities, and activities of the College, based on Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 (ADA), and their amendments. Accommodations are made on an individual, case-by-case basis, based on an interactive process and documentation submitted to the Disability Services Coordinator. Students with disabilities are encouraged to submit their documentation and to schedule an appointment as soon as possible prior to the start of any semester so that accommodations can be arranged before the start of the semester. Typical accommodations may include extended time for exams, a note-taker for class lectures, textbooks in audio e-text format, and a scribe and/or reader for exams. The Math Lab is available to assist students enrolled in any of the math courses offered on our campus. Tutoring is offered by a math professor, and students may come on an as-needed basis or schedule weekly appointments. The Lab is open Tuesday and Thursday 8:30 – 9:00am & 1:30 – 3:00pm.
